Sartor will be punished by voters: Opposition

The New South Wales Opposition says the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Frank Sartor, will be punished by voters for his decision to continue in the job while he campaigns for election to State Parliament.

Frank Sartor has also refused to rule out staying on in the mayoral post, if he wins the southern Sydney seat of Rockdale at the March state election.

But the Opposition's Shadow Special Minister of State, Barry O'Farrell, says Rockdale voters are likely to show a backlash, not just against Frank Sartor's decision, but also the way he was selected by the Labor Party.

"Firstly they impose upon the seat of Rockdale a candidate with no association with the area... now their candidate is saying that he's elected he won't be a fulltime local member," he said.

"I think in the current climate of enormous volatility, particularly in Labor Party heartland, that's a recipe for disaster."
