We Support the Australian Defence Force Personnel in Iraq

To all Australian Defense Force Members

We Thank you

Today we may say aloud before an awe-struck world: "We are still masters of our fate. We are still captain of our souls." Prime Minister's Speech on the War Situation, House of Commons, September 9, 1941

"Individuals have international duties which transcend the
national obligations of obedience? Therefore [individual
citizens] have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent
crimes against peace and humanity from occurring" --
Nuremberg War Crime Tribunal, 1950

While I have read  numerous letters opposing the righteous war against the Iraqi despot commonly known as the Butcher of Baghdad; as a citizen of a democracy and without the  risk of being vilified or persecuted , I thought I might offer a dissenting view.

If one has not,  like many Australians , experienced and or suffered harm , injury or death as a result of the  tactics of  those whom choose to gain power over others through any means including  the black art of terror , then an empathy with any victim would be impossible ,  particularly if there are other obstacles that separate them from  experience that must be overcome prior to an understanding. Through the ages, to overcome this ignorance hypothetical scenarios have , on many occasions  been used as a tool, in an attempt to convey some conception as to horrors suffered by those subjected to the whims of evil despots. The dissemination of this knowledge sometimes falling on the deafness of the bourgeoisie  of  intellectual derelicts , emotional bondservants , lip biting , hand wringing , bleeding heart hypocrites and poseurs who deliberately select crusades at a great enough distance to provide a plausible excuse to their fellow hypocrites a reason for not actually doing anything other than disrupt the community that has provided all the luxuries which they arrogantly  assume as rights. These haughty and pretentious protestors have already calculated the risks and costs of their disruptions as being nothing more than a limp lettuce leaf whipping. A far cry from the punishments handed out by their Idol of Worship as punishment for their temerity to dissent with his rule of terror

In an effort to assist these self righteous and self appointed moral arbitrators who have not experienced a life of terror, I offer a scenario.

If a group of power hungry people in Australia decide that they are discontent with the democratic process and , rather than combining themselves as a group to work together with the rest of the community , in a civilized and acceptable manner , they decide to opt for the easier , quicker - and for some more profitable avenue : the one of physical response ; terrorism".

This usually begins in a very mild form, one that can be tolerated as long as it is not used against oneself. It usually starts on a one to one basis, then as the tentacles reach out, it claims whole groups of victims, groups with whom the octopus of terrorism claims to have a common goal, and of course the victims agree --through fear! Visualize, if you can: The penalty imposed upon you or your family for not voting for the candidate, of some other person’s choice, or for not contributing a portion of your income, to enable this cancer of society to expand. The options are not pleasant, at best the maiming of you and your family, and at worst the murder, of you or your family.

We all perhaps have different values, but it is my belief, that to live in fear without retaliation, then death would be the preferable option. This form of intimidation is only successful on a small scale. To succeed, the intimidation must extend to all who differ from the terrorist. This includes all people with whom the terrorist can find no common goal. A more concentrated effort is required here, as intimidation is not an effective persuader on these people. This is when the ugly head of terrorism, spawned from the putrid heap of human rejects, knocks on the doors of civilized people. We must agree that terrorists are the people that God and man have rejected. The result of terrorism is : After a period of toleration , in the hope that it will go away , the exercising of a basic human right , that is , the right of self-defense , in the pursuance of self-preservation. This is when the insane humor of the world, the world we have created, crudely and rudely intrudes. These people, who have decided after lengthy provocation, the killing of their families, the destruction of their homes and the pulling down of their established order, to defend their basic rights, are now portrayed as the aggressors! What irony the world displays! Consider these people who have done no wrong in the world, therefore no wrong to mankind. These people have no desire to star on the world stage; they only ask that they be allowed to live in peace, governed by their own democratically elected government. These people have instigated no violence; they have shown no aggression to anyone, other than a righteous and fervent defense of themselves and their families. These people have a right to live in peace, without the threat of violence or terrorism hanging over their heads because of their religious our cultural beliefs.

This terrorism must end! Only fools attempt this form of persuasion. Only fools tolerate this form of persuasion. Only fools permit this form of persuasion. For at best, it will only achieve submission, which, like the dandelion plant, when the top is cut off, the root grows deeper and strengthens. At worst the terrorist will attract retaliation from his fellow man, from God and from the universal laws which state that every action creates an equal reaction. This will ensure the destruction, of the perpetrators of these crimes against all humanity, crimes which certain countries not only condone but actually embrace the perpetrators of these crimes and the apologists, for these criminals. Those that do not condemn these crimes against all humanity , must therefore condone them , and , in doing so will eventually fall prey to this breed of animal , this animal , that would control by violence , by murder , by intimidation and by terrorism.

It is state terrorism legitimized by legislation, such as this that is subjecting the many minorities in Iraq to a horrendous life style and cycle of institutionalized terror. The world is no longer made up of isolated villages populated by people perceived as Aliens by their neighbors. We are finally responsible for each other, and we are now ‘our brother’s keeper’

There can be no excuse for insular , parochial or even the politics of economics preventing us from giving our assistance in freeing the people of Iraq from the bondage of  terror imposed upon them by the Butcher of Baghdad.

It is our obligation, to defend those unable to defend themselves.

The sooner that the United Nations, an organization currently operating in a self destruct mode,  acts in a united manner, and for the benefit of mankind as a whole without consideration of their own individual members avarice then the sooner than we can focus on feeding the starving populations in the many tin pot dictatorships that still proliferate our planet.

But of course many of these influential members’ countries behave in a similar manner, and may be voting only in self preservation of their own status quo that is repressive government.

Are we destined to continue repeating the same mistakes until we finally destroy this planet and ourselves?

Older people will remember Munich and the ‘Peace in Our Time’ message delivered to the people of Britain , the lesson here was the same as today , a mad dog cannot be placated. The childlike naivety and unfitting political opportunism of Neville Chamberlain caused inestimable misery for not only the six years of war but for many years after as the world attempted to reconstruct its infrastructure.

Do we Australians, also desire to hear the words of Chamberlain, as he stated in front of 10 Downing Street:

"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time...
Go home and get a nice quiet sleep."

Would these people have slept well if they had seen the future as the next Prime Minister ‘Winston Churchill’ had foretold, and could this war have been avoided if  the action he had suggested been taken.

Do we demand as our Leader of the opposition implies;

That we should all have a cup of tea a Bex and a lie down in a quiet room, and leave our future in the hands of countries with vested interests paradoxical  with our own , surely to even suggest such a venture is utter insanity.

It is imperative that Saddam Hussein is not permitted once again to use the Iraqi people no matter to which sect they belong, and we must act swiftly and with one purpose.

If I may with license quote Nelson Mandela:

Let there be justice for all.

Let there be peace for all.

Let there be work, bread, water and salt for all.

Let each know that for each the body, the mind and the soul have been freed to fulfill themselves.

Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the indignity of being the skunk of the world.

Let freedom reign".

Is it not Saddam Hussein who denies basic freedom to even his own family evidenced by the murders of family members allegedly by his eldest son Uday?

Is it not Saddam Hussein ,who gasses his own people, invades neighboring states, bankrolls Palestinian suicide missions and shows no regard for international law? He has already broken the very conditions for maintaining power that he himself has agreed to. The United Nations already has had the legal authority; it is just lacking the backbone and the will, encouraged by the arrogance of the French and perhaps the necessary avarice of the bankrupt Russians who are owed billions by the Hussein regime.

Although the price of freedom is always high , the ability for a precise clean and accurate excision of Saddam Hussein and his cohorts could be as bloodless as laser keyhole surgery , and sadly with every deliberate delaying obstacle  put in place under the guise of diplomacy the cost of this excision escalates.

While prevention is better than cure  , when all else fails and invasive surgery is the only option left that guarantees  survival , then there is only one option  and it is the thought of this cost that reminds me of the letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to William Smith in 1787 in which he said:

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Let us pray that this despot of Iraq does not like many other tyrants before him, force his followers into an Armageddon and if in his madness he does ,that   it is only the blood of tyrants that will refresh the Iraqi Tree of Liberty.

While we are all human and are prone to make mistakes , it is how we handle these errors of judgment , if we learn and move on this is part of evolution , but unfortunately , years of incumbency has created an arrogance in government and statutory bodies , in fact many departments are rewarded for their ability to cover up corruption , malfeasance , incompetence therby providing the accommodation of criminal activity. The genesis of this web site was through the  hypocrisy of those entrusted with power in dealing with corrupt behavior , and the refusal of those charged with weeding it out to act without the permission of those accused. It has been used as a defense that "Silence is Consent"  , this is not so , as many other criminals have discovered to their detriment many years after their crimes. It was Edmund Burke (Anglo-Irish statesman 1729-1797) who said:

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing"
