The Wattle Street Works Depot

For years I worked out of this depot , and was continually gobsmacked by the vandal type environmental neglect sustained for all the years that I was employed at  this depot.

The many birth defects from those born reared in the sphere of influence of this depot could possibly be grounds for seeking compensation , even though most of the evidence has been disposed off.

While the concrete plant caused mostly a cement dust type pollution with the occasional overflow of their sump tanks into the stormwater and straight into Blackwattle bay , the real pollution was caused by the antiquated Asphalt Plant , which while operating used to spew out its deadly chemicals , and beside this plant was a large pit , which never filled up even though it was used as a tip for these poisonous additions to the Asphalt . this is a pit where the machines such as the bitumen paint sprayer were washed using powerful cutting agents , which were issued to Plant Operators to be used without any safety instructions or protective clothing. these being washed into this pit.

It is now years after that one begins feeling the effects of being exposed to these pollutants.

This large hole used as a tip , never filled up  , because the depot was built on a tidal swamp . and the changing of the tides cleansed out the liquids and drained them into Blackwattle Bay , and once or twice a year the remaining solids were removed and sent to the tip at St. Peters .

Even though this Depot has been closed for some time , one must expect that the land from this depot to Blackwattle bay would still be polluted with the chemical and heavy metals associated with the manufacture of Asphalt.

There is also the possibility of cracked fuel tanks also causing long term pollution on this same land.

Has Sydney City Council  investigated the possibility of this environmental scandal covering a period of almost 60 years.

If not , why not?

They have  been aware of this situation for quite some time.

Why has some investigative journalist not attempted to make their name with this possible scandal.
